The Center for Genomics and Systems Biology (CGSB) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) is seeking a motivated recent PhD graduate with excellent hands-on research in genomics or bioinformatics demonstrated by publications to join the Evolution of Pathogen Resistance in Plants research team and to work on host-parasite interactions in plants using diverse high-throughput datasets (WGS, WMS, metabolomics, and sc-RNA seq). This study aims to decipher the factors that enable the long-term maintenance of plant resistance to disease in natural systems. The ultimate goal is to apply these insights in a broader agricultural context. Several factors should impact the durability of resistance, but perhaps the best recognized is ecological context. The research will be conducted in a highly collaborative environment with members of Professor Joy Bergelson?s lab in NYU New York. Candidates with PhD in Biology, Microbiology, or related field preferred.
This position requires demonstrated background in experimental genomics or bioinformatics data analysis via published papers or code repositories (e.g. github). Candidates must be comfortable handling large sample sets to generate multiple types of ?omics datasets and/or have the ability to analyze diverse datasets (surveys, metagenomics, metabolomics, single-cell sequencing, etc.), be familiar with standard laboratory/statistical methods, genomics and metagenomics pipelines, laboratory/data management, and experimental/bioinformatics workflow development. They should be able to use existing standard operating protocols (SOPs) and should be open to developing new approaches for multi-omics data generation and analyses by working closely with CGSB Bioinformatics Core at NYUAD. This position will initially be for two years and may be renewable.
The successful applicants should be able to independently drive these projects forward by collaborating with an international team of researchers. Primary responsibilities will include generating multi-omics data, integrating whole genome sequences, metagenomics, metabolomics, and single-cell sequencing data to understand the molecular mechanisms by which microbes can affect host. Candidates must have strong written and oral presentation skills.
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcript of degree, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests, and at least 2 letters of recommendation, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please send an email to Dr. Aashish Jha aj3013@nyu.edu
