Reporting to the Executive Assistant Dean (EAD), and under the direct guidance of the Center Director, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) manages a broad range of policy-level administrative leadership for the UC Davis Genome Center, as well as oversight of business and finance, contract and grant administration, four recharged-based research cores, IT infrastructure, facilities, and human resources. Manage all center activities including long- and short-term planning, development activities, and direct support of the Director. Interact with faculty, staff, deans, and assistant deans from various UC Davis schools/colleges and campus administrative units.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent education and experience
Experience using leadership, organizational, and managerial skills to manage a complex interdisciplinary research, teaching, and service center that serves the entire campus and to assume responsibility for a broad range of policy level administrative leadership for the Center
Writing, editing and proofreading experience to create concise, compelling decision support presentations, reports, memoranda and other correspondence, as well as analyze information and present it logically and concisely
Strong quantitative and financial analysis skills to creatively design innovative approaches and administrative structures within a complex financial context.
Interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a wide variety of people in a tactful and diplomatic manner, and to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
Skills to analyze complex information or problems in an objective manner and derive logical conclusions to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities, select appropriate course of action for pursuit or recommendations to others, and resolve conflict.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience managing external funding sources.
Knowledge of University policies and procedures in areas of organization, resource management, academic personnel, staff personnel, budgeting and accounting, purchasing, equipment inventory, and collective bargaining.
Management and conflict resolution skills to effectively lead and motivate others.

Department Overview
The UC Davis Genome Center is a research, teaching, and service center that serves the entire campus. The center coordinates interdisciplinary research in the areas of genomics and bioinformatics, and is involved in the training of undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars. It currently consists of 17 resident faculty and 25 non-resident faculty with appointments in various departments within six campus colleges and schools. The center also hosts four major research core facilities that generate more than $8 million in annual income and serve approximately 750 customers on- and off-campus. The center has approximately 250 faculty, staff, students, professional researchers, visiting faculty, and postdoctoral scholars and is housed in the 232,000 sq. ft. Genome and Biomedical Sciences Facility (GBSF). Annual center expenditures total more than $25 million from multiple sources.
