SRA 2 NEXDepartment Description The Hagerman Laboratory within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine uses molecular techniques to characterize neurological disorders related to the FMR1 gene, specifically, fragile X syndrome (FXS) and fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS). The focus of research is the molecular characterization of gene expression and cellular pathways that underlie the pathogenesis of these disorders. Relevant fundamental techniques include human/mammalian cell culture; DNA, RNA, and protein extraction; PCR and qRT-PCR; immuno-based assays; and transfection of cultured human and mammalian cells.
