The laboratory of Dr. Salvemini in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at Saint Louis University, School of Medicine is looking for a highly motivated Assistant Research Professor in a vibrant NIH-funded laboratory that performs cutting edge pain research.
The laboratory integrates behavioral pharmacology, molecular genetics, biochemistry and drug discovery measures to understand pathways involved in the development of neuropathic pain. We are also interested in investigating the interactions between chronic neuropathic pain states and comorbidities, such as cognitive dysfunction, depression and anxiety. Our basic-science driven approach has led to the identification of several pathways and novel targets that are enabling the development of new pharmacological strategies for therapeutic intervention. Translating our discoveries to the clinic is a key mission of our work.
The Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, a vibrant multidisciplinary, highly collaborative and dynamic department, is also the home base of the Institute for Translational Neuroscience. Faculty members within the Department have expertise in several areas of pharmacology and physiology, with a particular emphasis in neuroscience and metabolism. The Department offers access to excellent core facilities and opportunities to join collaborative centers including the Liver Center, the Institute for Drug and Biotherapeutic Innovation, and the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences, and internal funding mechanisms for project support. Members of our community have access to the nationally-acclaimed Cortex Innovation Community, to multiple local startup-supporting institutions and to the fast-growing, cutting-edge medical and biotechnology community which operates actively throughout the St. Louis region.
