The Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (IQ) and the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) at Michigan State University are inviting applications for a tenure-system faculty position in biomedical science, broadly defined. Areas of interest include, but may not be limited to: big data, bioengineering, cancer biology, cell biology, chemical biology, computational biology, developmental biology, imaging, neuroengineering, regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, structural biology, synthetic biology, systems biology, or related fields. The successful candidate will preferably be affiliated with one or more of the following departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Computational Math Science and Engineering, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Physiology, or Pharmacology and Toxicology depending on interests, expertise, and accomplishments. A track record in federal grant support is expected, particularly for applicants applying to the Associate/Full positions. All applicants are expected to provide evidence of contributions to academic equity and excellence.
The Institute is comprised of interactive faculty and staff advancing interdisciplinary research and educational programs built on a foundation of varied biomedical and engineering disciplines at the frontiers of science. IQ is dedicated to basic and applied research at the intersection of engineering, human medicine, and natural sciences. The research-focused IQ faculty have a deep and wide multidisciplinary expertise bridging many areas of biomedical sciences that support the educational and research missions of the University. The institute strives to foster openness and collaboration driving convergence in science. Required Degree
Doctorate -biomedical sciences or related
Minimum Requirements
PhD in biomedical science or a related field
Track record of significant contributions to interdisciplinary biomedical research
Demonstrated sustainable and internationally recognized research program
Demonstrated track record in attracting external funding from federal funding agencies
Evidence of ability to be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students
Interest in and evidence of institutional and professional service
Dedication to the university’s mission in diversity, equity, and inclusion through their research, teaching, and service
Desired Qualifications
Additional research experience beyond the PhD, through a post-doctoral, industry, or faculty appointment
An ability to participate in curriculum development
Ability to collaborate with current faculty in the Institute, College as well as throughout the university
