The Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence in Protein Dynamics (CAAPD), the departments of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, and Pharmacology within the School of Medicine Basic Sciences at Vanderbilt University medical school invite applications for tenure-track Assistant Professor positions in the general areas of large language models, generative artificial intelligence (AI) and other deep neural networks for biomedical sciences. The departments at Vanderbilt University that compose the CAAPD rank among the leading departments in the country and support cutting-edge research, education/training, and outreach efforts across the entire life science and medical research communities.
We seek outstanding scientists with training in artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) methods addressing fundamental questions in protein science by developing and/or applying innovative technologies at the interface of AI/ML, molecular biophysics, structural biology, pharmacology, and/or computer-aided drug design. Applicants should hold a Ph.D or equivalent degree in biomedical research or computer science-related fields relevant to this search. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, a desire to integrate into our exciting, collaborative, and growing community, and a dedication to contributing to our values of diversity and inclusion.
Specifically, we are interested in applicants involved in the following:
Applying state-of-the-art AI algorithms to probe the conformational dynamics of proteins of biological interest in collaboration with experimental scientists, including by modeling the effects of mutations on conformational distributions, interactions with binding partners, and more
Developing novel deep learning architectures to encode biomolecular dynamics
Developing efficient tools for structure-based virtual high-throughput screening small molecule drug discovery in highly flexible proteins
Developing software platforms to integrate generative AI tools into molecular modeling tasks
Scientists working in similar areas of research to those listed are encouraged to apply.
Vanderbilt University has made multiple investments in AI/ML including through the Data Science Institute, Computer Science and transinstitutional initiatives in generative AI. The University maintains close and extensive collaborative echo system with the Vanderbilt University Medical Center where the department of Bioinformatics and the Vanderbilt Genetic Institute are located. The position includes a generous startup package and benefits, a joint appointment in either or both departments and outstanding data and translational opportunities across the University and the Medical Center.
PhD or equivalent degree
Applicants should provide a Curriculum Vitae (C.V.); a 2-3 page description of future plans for research interests and mentoring activities including your commitment to inclusive excellence (Research Statement); submit copies of 3 of your most impactful publications (Publication); submit a one-page document that briefly summarizes the importance and relevance each article has to the advertised position (Other Document); and three letters of recommendation (to be submitted by recommenders via unique link in Interfolio).
