Job Summary:
The Assistant Program Director (APD) of the Xavier University of Louisiana Genetic Counseling Program assists all aspects of the program, with primary responsibility for communication with clinical supervision sites, including reviewing student case logs and reviewing evaluations. The APD will also be primarily responsible for the initial supervisor training workshop and ongoing workshops with assistance from the PD and other faculty. The APD plans and teaches courses and provides lectures depending on individual expertise. The APD works closely with the program director in the recruitment and admissions process. The APD also aids and supports the program director in matters of overall program organization, administration, planning, development, and evaluation.
The APD reports directly to the Genetic Counseling Program Director. The 12-month non-tenure track faculty appointment is assigned a rank commensurate with experience.
The APD participates in the following activities:
Administrative
Admissions
Reviews applications
Meets with Program Director to select interviewees and rank candidates
Conducts individual interviews with all candidates
Program evaluation/accreditation
Compiles information regarding clinical training for annual reports and accreditation review
Assists the Program Director in other capacities as needed
Clinical Practicum
Coordinates clinical observation experiences for first-year students;
Assists in management of clinical placements for summer and second-year students: maintains forms, affiliation agreements, requirements, schedule, evaluations;
Assists in initiating and maintaining clinical affiliation agreements for clinical practicum sites;
Reviews and monitors student case logs, goals, mid-term and final evaluations and self-reflections;
Establishes remedial plan for students as necessary in collaboration with Program Director;
Develops supervisor workshops;
Reviews and monitors rotations sites and supervisors through formal evaluation, direct communication with supervisors and student conferences;
Provides feedback to rotation supervisors annually through aggregate site and supervisor evaluation reports;
Assists with standardized patient experiences;
Provides clinical supervision for genetic counseling students in cancer clinic not to exceed more than 0.4 FTE;
Assists with and develops course outlines and syllabi, functions as course director for Introduction to Cancer Genetic Counseling, and is an instructor in other courses as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications
American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) or the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) current genetic counseling board certification;
Minimum of 5 years' experience as a clinical genetic counselor;
Experience in teaching and lecturing to genetic counseling students or other health professionals;
Prior student supervision experience is preferred;
Have administrative, leadership, supervision, and teaching experience;
Be available for program administration year-round;
Demonstrate excellent analytical and critical thinking skills with close attention to detail;
Demonstrate expert skills in framing analytic problems, identifying key stakeholders, acquiring and preparing data, selecting and applying analytic tools, making recommendations, and producing actionable results;
Possess strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills;
Possess a strong commitment to achieving the missions of the Xavier University of Louisiana and the Genetic Counseling Program;
Will complete two hours per year of training/coursework related to their position in the program; including at least one hour of training/coursework related to principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
This full-time position is a 1.0 FTE with program-related clinical activity at Ochsner Hospital in the form of student supervision and clinical care, not to exceed 0.4 FTE.
Preferred Qualifications:
