Anil K. Lalwani, MD, and Jeffrey W. Kysar, PhD, at Columbia University in New York City have a job opening for a motivated and skilled researcher at the rank of Senior Staff Associate II for a research program focused on the prevention and treatment of noise induced hearing loss in a guinea pig model.
The research program combines a unique new microneedle technology that allows atraumatic access to the cochlea with newly developed gene therapies for hearing loss prevention. One goal of the project is to characterize the distribution of agents in the cochlea from base to apex after injection across the round window membrane with a microneedle. The agents include gadolinium MRI contrast agent and fluorescent agents. In addition, the microneedle technology will be used to deliver genetic therapy to the cochlea before and after acoustic trauma to investigate the impact of transient vs. long term knockdown of various genes on noise induced hearing loss.
The successful candidate will hold a MD and/or a PhD in biology, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, hearing science or related field. Expected experience includes working with animal models (rodents preferred), middle- and/or inner-ear surgeries, audiometric testing, microscopy skills and molecular techniques for DNA, RNA, and protein assessment.
Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. To apply, please submit to http://apply.interfolio.com/135362 your curriculum vitae, a personal statement or cover letter summarizing your research experience as well as the contact information for three references. Questions may be directed to Anil K. Lalwani, MD, Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, Columbia University at firstname.lastname@example.org.
