The Stem Cell and Gene Therapy (SCGT) program located within the Translational Science and Therapeutics Division at Fred Hutch is recruiting a Research Associate / Staff Scientist, with a focus on developing novel gene therapy and gene editing strategies using nucleases and base editors for the modification of hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) and / or T cells.

The position involves responsibilities, such as the development and optimization of protocols, processing of primary tissue samples, culture/analysis of genetically modified cell, and transplantation/monitoring of modified cells ex vivo as well as in vivo. The candidate will work under the PI and will be expected to publish and present their work in both internal and external events. Experience with animal models would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Handling projects independently, including literature reviews, experimental design, and data analysis.
• Co-mentoring and supervising scientific trainees, interns, and research technicians in the lab.
• Contributing to the preparation of research reports, publications, and oral presentations, as well as grants to fund new avenues of investigation in the lab.
• Opportunities for presentations at scientific conferences and symposiums.
• Assisting with laboratory management and organization.

Qualifications

• A PhD or MD in a scientific field and at least 3 years of post-doctoral experience in a relevant field (hematopoietic stem cell cultures/model systems, in vivo studies, flow cytometry/flow-assisted cell sorting, and/or molecular biology techniques e.g., quantitative PCR.)
• Experience in using gene therapy and editing tools is required.
• Previous experience in basic bioinformatics, and/or GLP/GMP techniques is desired, but not required.
• Track record of productive research, with high quality first-author publications.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $65,484.00 to $165,440.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
