This is a Chan Zuckerberg Initiative/ Silicon Valley Community Foundation-funded postdoctoral position to study bystander effects during infectious diseases.
The current project aims to elucidate the source signals and spatial range of bystander metabolic effects of infection and their dynamics following antimicrobial treatment, using cutting-edge mass spectrometry technologies.
The candidate will focus on in vitro and in vivo models of Trypanosoma cruzi infection, and will perform liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry data analysis. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Post Doc must be team-oriented and task-driven. Must be able to perform experiments under the direction of Dr. McCall. Must be able to gather data and analyze data for reporting and publications.
Responsibilities Core Responsibilities 80%
The lab-personnel must be able to perform project-related technical tasks in all of the following areas:
With training, perform metabolite extractions, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry data acquisition, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry data analysis
Statistical analyses of data
Report data in lab book and as figures, powerpoint presentations, oral presentations, text-based reports, and scientific manuscripts
Follow best practices in terms of laboratory safety and SDSU rules and regulations
Literature research: searching and reading the scientific literature
Position Specific Responsibilities 20%
Contribute to mentoring undergraduate student working on this project.
Plan and schedule the necessary experiments, including ordering needed supplies.
Interact with members of the research team in a professional and collaborative manner. Participate actively in lab meetings.
Qualifications Knowledge & Abilities
Research experiences in Biosciences or Chemistry.
Best practices in terms of laboratory safety compliance
Best practices in terms of scientific data documentation and reporting.
Project Specific Knowledge and Abilities
Basic skills in mammalian cell culture
Basic skills in rodent models of disease
Experience with standard statistical analyses of data
Experience with scientific data documentation and reporting
Required Experience/Education
D. degree in Biosciences or Chemistry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS
Ph.D. in Biosciences or Chemistry.
While not mandatory, experience with liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and/or computational data analyses (R or python) is an asset.
Experience in infectious diseases (especially parasitic diseases) is an asset.
