Position Description
The Department of Neurology at the University of Washington School of Medicine is seeking a research scientist to join its Neurogenetics Division. This applicant is expected to establish an independent research program focused on discovering and characterizing new susceptibility genes for Parkinson's disease and related disorders. An emphasis on inclusion of underrepresented populations in the research is a prerequisite. This candidate will be based primarily at the VA Puget Sound in Seattle and work closely with faculty in the VA Geriatric and Parkinson's Disease Research Education and Clinical Centers. Investigators in these centers have expertise in a broad range of disciplines and lead/participate in several national and international genetics consortia. This is a full-time, 12-month service period appointment, at the Assistant Professor (without tenure) rank. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. This position is intended for full-time research without clinical responsibilities.
Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The base salary range for this position in this title will be $8,334 - $9,584 per month ($100,008 to $115,008 per year), commensurate with experience, discipline, and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Our salaries are bench marked based on the AAMC scale. Other compensation associated with this position may or may not include Startup, Relocation Incentive/Moving Allowance Administrative supplement for a defined administrative role, or Productivity Incentive.
Title, rank and salary is commensurate with experience. The anticipated start date of this appointment is January 2, 2024.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. or foreign equivalent with an emphasis in genetics of Parkinson's disease and related disorders.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in state of Washington.
- In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
