Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology (EEOB) at Iowa State University (ISU) seeks applications for a Biogeochemist/Ecosystem Ecologist. This is a tenure-track, 9-month appointment in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the rank of assistant professor. The position is part of a broader hiring initiative to expand established departmental and campus-wide expertise in environmental sustainability and global change biology. We seek candidates capable of establishing an externally funded research program in Biogeochemistry/Ecosystem Ecology, including topics relevant to Iowaâs agricultural landscapes. Mentoring of graduate students is expected. Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in areas of expertise, and service to the institution and profession are part of the faculty responsibilities.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent in ecology, environmental science, or closely related fields.
Publications in nationally or internationally recognized journals.Â
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of potential to conduct impactful research in biogeochemistry/ecosystem ecology
Research experience and interests in biogeochemistry/ecosystem ecology relevant to Iowa ecosystems Â
Commitment to evidence-based, innovative teaching and student learning
Commitment to community outreach and service
Department/Program & College Description:
The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology is a collaborative and collegial community of about 70 faculty, graduate students, post-doctoral researchers, and staff addressing a wide range of research questions using multiple approaches that bridge traditional scientific disciplines and span levels of biological organization. EEOB is jointly administered by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS). The department administers undergraduate programs in Biology, Environmental Science, and Genetics, and our faculty participate actively in multiple interdepartmental graduate programs, including Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Science, Genetics and Genomics, and Bioinformatics and Computational Biology.Â
