UCSF Junior Specialist - Xu Lab

The Xu Lab at the UCSF Diabetes Center is seeking to fill a position of Junior Specialist. The overall research focus is to understand the mechanisms behind obesity and type 2 diabetes. Our work focuses on elucidating the functions of the brain neuronal circuits in adaptive regulation of food intake, energy expenditure, glucose and lipid metabolism in response to physiological and environmental changes such as high-fat feeding and aging. The major responsibilities of the position include performing experiments, maintaining animal colony, keeping the lab in compliance with university regulatory protocols, ordering supplies and equipment maintenance, and other tasks as assigned. The candidate is expected to present at seminars and journal clubs.

The successful candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field by the time of hire. Applicants' materials must list current and/or pending qualifications upon submission. Basic skills in bioinformatics are desirable. The candidate should have the ability to carry out experiments independently, perform data analysis, interpret results and do trouble-shooting. The applicant must be comfortable working with animals. Having excellent communication skills and superb work ethics are absolute requirements.

Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicants experience and training.
