The Erle lab at UCSF is seeking a Staff Research Associate II (SRA II) interested in studying basic mechanisms underlying asthma. Asthma is a major public health problem that affects more than 300 million children and adults. Our studies, which are funded by the National Institutes of Health' (NIH's) National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) and National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), focus on identifying how changes in the airway epithelium cause morbidity and mortality in asthma. We also collaborate with the Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) at UC Berkeley on a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF)-funded grant assessing cell-specific delivery of novel genome editing enzymes to correct orphan mutations in CF.
The SRA II will join a team of scientists conducting experiments central to the lab's research efforts in investigating gene regulation and mechanisms of airway obstruction in asthma and developing new treatment approaches for cystic fibrosis.
This individual will contribute to research projects by generating datasets and testing hypotheses using methods established in the lab including primary human cell culture, flow cytometry, gene targeting using CRISPR-Cas9 and gene expression analysis.
The SRA II will work closely with other experienced lab members, collaborate with clinical researchers at UCSF, and have the opportunity to develop additional research skills and contribute to development of new research directions in the lab.
