Performs basic research to understand molecular mechanisms of neuron structures and function, primarily using Drosophila molecular genetics and cell biology and quantitative imaging. Individuals should have the ability and desire to innovate when these are insufficient. Assists the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of results and grants. Maintains the laboratory research team and may exercise training and supervising undergraduates/graduates in a laboratory setting.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. or equivalent required in Biophysics, Biology, or related field. Senior doctoral students (4th year +) will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, attention to details, as well as training in research methodology and quantitative data analysis are essential to the successful candidate. The candidates should have strong background in Drosophila molecular genetics and cell biology. Experience with neuronal cytoskeleton, optogenetics, and quantitative imaging are a plus. Ability to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.
