The Department of Mathematics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University of Science and Technology in Ames, Iowa, seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.  The successful candidate will expand our current research program in cybersecurity broadly construed; in particular, but not limited to, classical and post-quantum cryptography, and direct applications of machine learning in cybersecurity. Preference will be given to candidates in the areas of logic, algebra, or analysis.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a strong Mathematics research program; develop collaborative and interdisciplinary research; publish in top venues; provide outstanding graduate student supervision; teach undergraduate and graduate Mathematics courses; and enhance ISU through professional and institutional service. We are interested in exceptional candidates who can expand our research profile in new directions as previously described. This position is part of a strategic initiative to build Iowa Stateâs research strength and degree programs in key areas, including cybersecurity.

Department/Program & College Description:
The Department of Mathematics resides in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offering B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics.  The Department is also active in interdepartmental programs in Data Science at the undergraduate level as well as Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, Human-Computer Interactions, and Information Assurance at the graduate level. The department participates in many interdisciplinary research collaborations, including partnerships with faculty in bio-sciences, computer science, and several engineering programs.  The Department of Mathematics has 48 faculty professionals, 70 Ph.D. students, 10 postbaccalaureate and M.S. students, and approximately 170 B.S. students. We have strong research and educational programs in discrete mathematics, algebra, logic, analysis and probability, numerical analysis, geometric analysis, and PDEâs.  In addition to our faculty, we have a robust postdoctoral program with 10 associates. The Department has over $2 million in active awards and we contribute to active interdisciplinary research and training grants totaling approximately $5 million. Our tenure-eligible faculty regularly teach graduate courses; annually the Department offers 35 graduate courses. The faculty also engage in weekly research seminarsâcurrently the department offers 10 active seminars. The teaching load for untenured faculty is 3 courses per year. The standard teaching load for tenured faculty is 4 courses per year, with highly productive research active faculty routinely provided with a course release.
