Summary of Duties:
The Systems/Database Administrator is responsible for providing systems administration and database administration for the Main Bioinformatics Lab (MainLab Bioinformatics) at WSU. The position will be responsible for system maintenance (installation of new software releases, systems upgrades, server patching and resolving software related problems). Major responsibilities include PostreSQL database administration, cluster management, system backup and recovery, security monitoring, and actively maintaining a disaster recovery plan for both hardware and software services.
The Bioinformatics lab (www.bioinf.wsu.edu) of Dr. Dorrie Main at Washington State University in Pullman, WA, is looking to recruit a Unix Systems Administrator/Database Manager. The MainLab program is globally recognized for its development of integrated genomic, genetic, and breeding databases as well as big-data tools to aid global crop improvement efforts concerning food security and environmental change.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years professional experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related field, with at least 3 years of experience managing a UNIX/Linux environment, database management, cluster management, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to develop and follows a set of documented change management policies
Experience working in a team setting is required and positive attitude towards 'customer support' and resolving user issues.

Annual Salary:
$70,000.00 - $75,070.00
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.

This is a temporary position. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
