Neurology PhysiciansJob Summary
A neurologist who focuses on epilepsy treatment. Diagnose and treat disorders that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles of patients. Examine a patient's mental and physical status, conduct medical tests and scans, and evaluate the results to diagnose and treat the patient.
Diagnose complex medical problems by referring to a patient's history, examining them, and conducting neurological tests. (10%)
Counsel patients on neurological disorders and their background. (10%)
Order neurological tests and interpreting the results of neuroimaging studies. (10%)
Prescribe and/or administering treatment and medication. (10%)
Monitor the behavioral and cognitive side effects of treatment and medication. (10%)
Order supportive care services for patients. (10%)
Participate in neuroscience research activities. (10%)
Liaison with medical professionals in the community and hospitals. (10%)
Keep up-to-date with neurological developments, treatments, and medication. (10%)
Perform specialized treatments such as sleep disorders, neuroimmunology, neuro-oncology, behavioral neurology, and neurogenetics. (5%)
Perform and interprete lumbar punctures, electroencephalography, electromyography, and nerve conduction velocity tests. (5%)
Doctorate Degree Required
MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels and value systems.
Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Computer skills required.
Computer skills preferred.
