Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Technician A to join our team in a full-time position to work within the division of Molecular Genetics. This position will provide research assistance for a study investigating molecular genetics of weight regulation. The qualified candidate will work closely with all team members and the other members of the Division of Molecular Genetics.  S/He will work on basic molecular genetics bench work including DNA extraction, RT-PCR, sanger sequencing, western blot, as well as participate in undertaking animal studies. S/He may be involved in therapeutics studies in animals.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic molecular genetics bench work including DNA extraction, RT-PCR, sanger sequencing, and western blot.
• Participate in undertaking animal studies including measurement of weight, length, body composition and tests for glucose tolerance. Maybe involved in therapeutics studies in animals.
• Perform related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

• Two years of college or a completed A.A program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program.
• One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and/ or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Highly organized, with great attention to details.
• Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision.
• Basic computer skills and be able to use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
