Description An Assistant Professor on the Research Track is available in the Slingerland/Jacobs laboratory. Research in our labs investigates cell cycle regulation and PI3K signaling, and recently identified novel pro-oncogenic roles of p27 in transcriptional regulation and epigenetics. We also investigate the mechanisms whereby different estrogens interact with the estrogen receptor and NFKB pathways to mediate mechanisms underlying the greater risk and adverse outcomes of breast and other cancers in the context of obesity. The successful applicant will also engage in research on other projects investigating how estrogen receptor and NFKB pathways interact to link estrogens, obesity, inflammation, and loss of anticancer immunity, with a focus on NK cells, using both in vitro immunologic assays and in vivo mouse models of cancer and anticancer immunity.
Projects require discretion and judgment in research activities within project scope and methodologies. This position requires in-depth knowledge of molecular biology, protocol/ method development, organizing and implementing complex research plans, analysis of data, and writing manuscripts for publication of findings. The successful applicant will also assist the PIs in monitoring and adhering to funding budgets. The Assistant Professor will assist the Principle Investigators to conduct research per Georgetown policies and procedures.
