POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinate joint activities with labs in other departments. Maintain and monitor large collection of mutated and transgenic fruitflies. Perform microdissection and microinjection procedures requiring considerable manual dexterity. Genetics procedures. Media preparation. Perform many biochemical techniques ranging from making chemical solutions to active compounds. The genetic work will involve maintaining and handling cultures of flies and requires use of a microscope. The individual will be required to keep complete and accurate records of his/her work in all laboratory notebooks. From time to time other work will include monitoring and ordering laboratory supplies, instructing students and others in certain standard techniques. Perform other duties as assigned.

The person will:

• Perform a moderate number of simple or moderate technical procedures;
• Require occasional guidance;
• Occasionally be responsible for ordering routine supplies;
• Rarely modify technical procedures;
• Rarely train other lab members;
• Rarely guide other lab members;
• A simple / limited understanding of scientific literature and the research goals and rationale is required;
• Occasionally analyze data;
• Rarely interpret data;
• Rarely make written contributions to papers and grant proposals.*

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelors degree in a related science or equivalent skills and experience, and 0-2 years of experience in Genetics and Molecular Genetics laboratory preferred.
• Background in Genetics or related discipline.
