The Department of Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences seeks individual with strong understanding of experimental laboratory-based research, who can help provide the leadership required to implement innovative research programs in collaboration to advance health. Specific responsibilities include leadership and management of specific grant programs devoted to investigating the role of membrane transporters in drug response and human health. Research ranges from deorphaning transporters in the human genome to deep mutational scanning of genetic variants in transporters to uncovering the mechanisms of drug-drug interactions, as well as drug absorption, distribution and elimination. This position will provide research faculty with the breadth of senior management collaboration and ideation needed to advance the research agenda on many fronts simultaneously. The Assistant Professional Researcher is accountable for promoting and establishing new research ideas relevant to pharmacogenomics research of membrane transporters as well as to conduct research, manage projects and analyze results. The Assistant Professional Researcher plays a role in formulating research goals and for translating these goals into research grants, such as NIH, FDA, and other funding opportunities. The Assistant Professional Researcher role is to interact closely with faculty members and staff at UCSF and to promote collaborative research between the Giacomini laboratory and other faculty members. In addition, this individual plays a key role in large national and international collaborative research projects. The Assistant Professional Researcher is required to provide guidance to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in the Giacomini laboratory in their laboratory-based projects or in data analysis.
Required Qualifications:
PhD in related biomedical field (by hire date), preferably in molecular biology, pharmacology, biological sciences. At least 3 years of postdoc training. The Assistant Professional Researcher must have a publication record commensurate with this faculty level and must have at least 1 year of experience in training and supervising scientists in the laboratory setting. Candidate's CV or cover letter must state qualifications (or if pending) upon submission.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Track record of independent research
* Completion of post-doctoral fellowship
* Strong understanding of the therapeutic or related sciences preferred.
* Experience working with government agencies or other national health and science-related agencies preferred.
* Advanced communication and presentation experience preferred.
* Experience with grant awards, scholarly publications and international projects preferred.
