The Rowe Lab is interested on understanding how early life development impacts the function of immune cells, known as T cells in children. In young individuals T cells have different function and differentiation fates than those from adult individuals. Our lab utilizes a combination of cellular immunology, transcriptomic, and metabolomic tools to understand the biology behind this developmentally mediated regulation of immune cell fate. We are generating foundational studies to understand the how these processes, occurring naturally during childhood, impact the ability of children???s immune systems to protect them from infections and pediatric cancers. We use a combination of primary human samples and??in vivo??mouse models of diseases to answer these questions related to childhood health. The long-term goals of these studies is to identify unique features of the pediatric immune system that can be utilized to improve immune therapy strategies against cancer and infections or augmented to treat autoimmune diseases.??
Characteristics:
Willing to learn the techniques of the laboratory and be the primary driver of postdoctoral project.
Well organized with good written and verbal communication skills
Will be require to present research findings at departmental seminars
Comfortable with small animal (mouse) handling, breeding, tissue collection, and procedures is expected.
Learn to manage small breeding colony of genetically modified mice.
Use of electronic lab notebook system is required.
Ph.D in biological sciences or equivalent
Experience with flow cytometry (up to 18 colors utilized)
Experience with molecular biology preferred (PCR, DNA/RNA collection, library preparation for sequencing).
Interest or experience in learning bioinformatic analysis is preferred.
Interest or experience in learning metabolomics is a preferred.
