The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a full time Staff Associate to work under the direction of the Principle Investigator, performs duties associated with projects aiming to use gene therapy to tackle inherited retinal disorders (IRDs).  Research approaches include gene augmentation, genome editing, in vivo studies in IRD mouse models, and induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) retinal organoid modeling.

Job Responsibilities:

·         Provide general laboratory assistance to support research activities

·         Conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols

·         Performs assignments which are non-routine and vary in complexity

·         Complies data and computes results for a variety of research procedures, tests, and techniques

·         Maintaining in vitro cultures, mice colony maintenance and procedures with mice such as injections and surgeries, experiments with animal tissues, sample collection and maintaining records

·         Performing characterization of retinal function and structure in rodent models (ERG,OCT, fundoscopy, behavior testing), gene therapy and/or virology

·         Preparing buffers, media, and running the in vitro and in vivo assays

·         Cell and molecular biology experiments related to DNA, RNA and protein from cell, animal or clinical specimen.

·         Differentiations and maintenance of retinal organoids from iPSCs

·         Maintain records of experiment results, data management, ordering supplies, update inventory,

·         organizing lab

·         Maintenance of equipment

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Bachelor's degree in Biology, chemistry or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience

·         Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols

·         Ability to work with animal experiments

·         Knowledge of computer analysis techniques

·         Ability to provide routine analysis and interpretation of research data

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Two years of research experience in basic science research

Salary Range: $58,710 - $58,710
