GENE TESTING LAB (IN-GTL-IUINA)

One of the first human genetics departments in the country, the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at IU School of Medicine has a rich history of training geneticists and genetic counselors and providing genetic consultation and counseling services. The department contributes to the understanding of numerous genetic conditions through the integration of basic research in genetic and genomic mechanisms, translational research in disease models, and clinical trials in rare and common genetic diseases.

The IU Genetic Testing Laboratories (IUGTL) and its core laboratory sections of Molecular Genetics, Cytogenetics, Pharmacogenomics, Diagnostic Genomics and Biochemical Genetics, offer comprehensive genetic testing for the diagnosis of new disorders and the ongoing management of disease, and also support research efforts for faculty both inside and outside of IUSM. This position will support the information system needs of all laboratory sections within the IUGTL.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Performs information system troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Performs testing upgrades, patch installs and new test builds.
• Creates and tracks support tickets with external vendors.
• Collaborates with IU Health Cerner team and University IT services.
• Participates in project planning.

General Responsibilities

• Provides experienced systems analysis related to the design, development, implementation, planning and support of university systems; monitors systems to determine hardware and application needs, performance tuning needs, as well as system maintenance needs.
• Coordinates deployment of new systems, providing seamless integration and rigorous testing; ensures systems security; ensures systems services have high availability.
• Researches and recommends systems software solutions; performs experienced analyses, evaluation and testing of high performance computer software systems; monitors hardware/software usage, provides statistics, produces reports as needed, and makes recommendations for strategies.
• Participates in project planning, formulating objectives, and preparing project proposals; evaluates requests for service and makes recommendations that are effective, efficient and synchronous with university IT services, policies and standards.
• Reviews and documents problem resolutions as well as systems analysis standards, best practices, and processes.
• Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry standards for systems administration and analysis.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelor's degree preferably in computer science or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

• 2 years of systems analysis or related experience.

Preferred

• Experience in a healthcare setting.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. This position is eligible for remote work or to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

$59,360.04 - $69,360.00 per year based on experience and internal equity within the department.
