Will be involved in projects to perform big-data research, bundling genetics, multi-omics, biomarker, clinical, and histopathological data, to harness the full range of biologically relevant data to better understand Alzheimerâ™s disease and related dementias. There is a particular emphasis on addressing important questions regarding sex dimorphisms, ancestry, and health disparities in Alzheimerâ™s disease.
Another primary focus is the cross-modal integration of Alzheimerâ™s disease genomics with brain-imaging derived phenotypes to elucidate how genetics contributes to disease heterogeneity. Research will contribute importantly to the discovery of novel risk genes, steer basic research and drug development, and advance personalized medicine.Â
Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
Prepares and submits papers on research.
Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Knowledgeable within one or more of the following subjects: Genetics, Functional Genomics, Neuroimaging, Bioinformatics, and Big Data (knowledge on Alzheimerâ™s disease and related dementias is not crucial).Â
Experience with data/statistical analyses in one or more of the following programming environments: R, Python, bash, MATLAB, JAVA, etc.Â
Experience using computing clusters (batch processing), cloud computing services, and containerization.Â
Experience with population genetics, genomics, and (whole genome) sequencing data, as well as related analytical approaches (Plink, GWAS, gene-burden, QTL colocalization, mendelian randomization, etc.).Â
Experience with analysis of multi-omics data and cross-modal integration with genetics and imaging data.Â
Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.
Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
Ability to work well independently or as a team member.
PhD, M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience; or a combination of education and experience equaling twelve years.
$62,200.00 - $112,700.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
