The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Steckelberg Lab investigates mechanisms of gene regulation during virus infection using a combination of biochemical, structural, biophysical, and cell-biological approaches. Ongoing research in the lab focuses on viral RNA structures that manipulate cellular processes.
Responsibilities
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for ordering and keeping critical inventories well-stocked and organized.
Maintain lab???s buffer and media needs (~5 hours/week).
Participate and engage intellectually in the lab???s research goals and work closely with other colleagues in a highly motivated, collaborative environment.
Anticipate one or more co-authored research publications to result from time in the lab.
Perform other duties as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or equivalent in education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of laboratory research experience.
A commitment of two or more years is desired.
Strong knowledge of chemistry and biology and must be proficient in standard molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis, setting up reactions using commercially available enzymes) and interested in learning new techniques.
Experience in mammalian cell culture and/or the expression and purification of recombinant proteins is a plus.
Excellent organizational and communication skills and comfortable reading primary research articles in RNA biology and virology.
Ability to complete tasks on time, with fine attention to detail, and multitask effectively.
Team player and enjoy working collaboratively in groups.
