POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, ADVANCED CARBON MINERALIZATION INITIATIVE, Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences (EAPS)/McGovern Institute for Brain Research, to join the Advanced Carbon Mineralization Initiative and help lead a novel project to tackle climate change through biologically catalyzed atmospheric carbon capture. Will enrich, analyze, and optimize basalt-weathering microbial communities and communities that enhance the precipitation of carbonate minerals. This will include establishing enrichment cultures under different chemical conditions and on different mineral substrates, developing high-throughput assays to identify mineral-dissolving and mineral-precipitating communities, and analyzing the communities by sequencing their metagenomes and transcriptomes to identify critical processes and interactions that stimulate basalt dissolution or carbonate precipitation.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: Ph.D., in geosciences, biology, materials sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering or related fields by the date of hire; strong experimental and quantitative background; experience with wet lab work; and demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. This is a one-year position with extension based on performance and funding. The start date is flexible, but preferably before September 2023.
