The Payton lab studies the role of the epigenome in gene regulation in human cancers and infection. The successful applicant for this position will focus on microbial mechanisms that directly modulate host immune response. For these projects, we use chromatin (ChIP/ATAC/CUT&RUN), genome and transcriptome sequencing, as well as molecular, biochemical, cellular phenotyping and animal model experiments.
Assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials.
Assists with research studies, experiments and assays including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
Maintains accurate and up to date notebook with experimental details as well as data files on research samples and processing.
Participates in lab meetings.
Prepares tissue cultures, reagents, molecular reagents, etc.
Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning, including supply ordering, buffer preparation, and electronic systems for cell and reagent organization.
This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards.Â The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Highly reliable, scientifically curious, motivated, and organized.
Familiarity with basic science laboratory setting (experience with specific assays is not necessary).
Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate effectively (verbal and written) with laboratory staff and investigators.
Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.
Bachelorâ™s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.
$16.08 - $25.12 / HourlyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
