Major job functions for this position include the following.
1) Project Management - 60% - Create and track projects using the UMGC’s FileMaker Pro database. - Correspond with researchers to plan and initiate projects. - Generate quotes and invoice for completed projects. - Keep detailed records of experiments. - Track status for multiple projects to meet deadlines. - Coordinate experiments with other staff members.
2) Data Collection and Analysis - 20% - Collect and analyze data using custom or vendor software. - Evaluate and clearly communicate experimental results. - Ability to accurately enter, interpret and analyze data using Excel spreadsheets. - Proficient in Microsoft Office suite. - Assist with data mining and meta data for improving and tracking UMGC services and processes.
3) Laboratory experiments - 20% - Perform multiple complex scientific procedures effectively, efficiently and independently. - Meet project specifications on time. - Track multiple concurrent projects. - Maintain a required high level of cleanliness and refined processing technique to ensure samples are not contaminated. - Carry out laboratory experiments under the direction of UMGC scientists. - Troubleshoot experiments. - Operate all related specialized instrumentation and technologies, i.e. liquid handling robots, data acquisition instruments. - Maintain instrumentation per manufacture protocols. - Work collaboratively with other staff and researchers.
This position will work in our leased space in Oakdale, MN (4Front) where Office/Lab Based Time spent working remotely is occasional or inconsistent. Dedicated on campus work space to be provided. 40-hour work week will be arranged ahead of time which may include nights and weekends.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Required (Minimum) Qualifications: Position requires BS/BA, and 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience equal to six (6) years. • Experience working in the field of high-throughput genotyping and molecular analysis of especially plant or animal or in the human systems. • Experience in communicating with customers and colleagues. • Experienced in project management.
Preferred Qualifications: (Selection Criteria) Experience with high throughput Array processing, operating/programming of laboratory liquid handling instrumentation. Extensive molecular biology laboratory experience in preparation of Illumina based genotyping arrays, and bioinformatics knowledge. Experience in a CLIA or CAP regulated molecular biology or genomics lab. Ability to identify problems and troubleshoot experiments. Flexibility in changing job duties.
