This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
The Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct research aimed at identifying molecular mechanisms and genes that control plant growth and development in response to environmental factors. Also, the long-term goals of the projects in the lab include developing agronomic and breeding strategies to translate the knowledge generated from basic research into applications in crop production. Therefore, strong understanding of basic and applied plant sciences is required for this position.
Responsibilities:
Growing plants in greenhouses, plant growth chamber, and field.
Phenotyping morphological, physiological, and biochemical properties, and molecular characterization of mutants and wild type plants.
Data analysis, bioinformatics, and manuscript preparation.
Training and supervising technicians and undergraduate students.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
A PhD in plant molecular biology, plant physiology, plant genetics or related fields.
Research experience in plant molecular physiology and genetics, and bioinformatics.
Publications in peer reviewed journals.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of agronomy/horticulture, crop physiology, plant breeding, and crop yield improvement
Experience working with crop plants.
Preferred Qualifications:
Skills in transcriptomic and metabolomic data generation and analysis.
In situ hybridization.
Quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping.
Electron microscopy.
