Job Summary: | The Pellett lab is a world-recognized academic research lab in the area of bacterial virulence and host-pathogen interactions, focusing on Clostridium botulinum and botulinum neurotoxin research. As such, the lab is Select Agent registered and all lab members must be willing and able to pass a Select Agent suitability assessment. Research in the Pellett lab revolves around investigating pathogenic as well as pharmacological properties of botulinum neurotoxins and homologs, structure function studies, vaccine development, genetic manipulations of Clostridium botulinum, and gene expression studies in Clostridium botulinum. The candidate for this position will be involved in multiple research projects that will include efforts in recombinant protein vaccine developments as well as basic research to increase our fundamental understanding of the pathogenesis and therapeutic utility of various botulinum neurotoxins.
The successful candidate will have an important role in the lab, performing independent research within the lab's current (predominantly NIH funded) research program and presenting data in written publications as well as at scientific conferences. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to participate in preparing grant proposals to secure future funds. Education: | Required Bachelor's Degree Biology, Toxicology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or closely related field required.

Qualifications: | - At least 7 years of research experience - Must be able to pass screening to work with Tier 1 Select Agents. Select Agent Suitability and training will be acquired upon hire. - Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills; ability to meet deadlines in a timely manner - Computer literacy and Microsoft Office proficiency - Proven competence with protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and bacteriological methods. - Experience working with mice and other animals - Documented history of scientific publications and presentations - Willingness to learn new techniques is required. - Experience in the development and submission of grant applications - Must possess the ability and desire to work independently and as part of a team. - Willingness and ability to work with pathogens and toxins, including under BSL2 and BSL3 conditions. |

Salary: | Minimum $50,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The starting salary for the position is $50,000 but the rate is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts; retirement benefits. Title level will be determined by relevant experience. Possibility of a hiring bonus up to $2,000. |
