Job Summary

The Flow Cytometry Core at Harvard's Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology provides cutting edge technologies for the direct isolation and interrogation of highly purified cell populations, including immune cells, stromal cells, and stem cells from various vertebrate organs and organoid systems. Core staff operate and maintain state-of-the-art instrumentation and participate in groundbreaking research and development activities together with local research labs and industry partners. The Core offers many exciting opportunities to innovate both the technologies and applications of flow cytometry and to advance basic and translational science towards a better understanding of fundamental developmental processes and disease mechanisms, more robust tissue regenerative activities and novel approaches to cell and gene therapy.

Position Description

Working under nominal supervision, the position will participate in flow cytometry and stem cell research; conducting experiments using high-speed, multi-parameter cell sorters and analyzers. The position will work directly and collaboratively with a number of researchers, assisting in design, execution, and interpretation of experiments and evaluation of research data. Will also assist in training and advising lab members in use of equipment. Duties will include operating and maintaining equipment, scheduling procedures, quality control testing, troubleshooting instruments and computer programs during the conduct of experiments, ordering supplies/materials, interfacing with vendors, and preparing reagents. Position will also generate reports for faculty and management.

Basic Qualifications

College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline. At least one year in a stem cell, immunology, developmental biology or bioengineering research lab (relevant course work may count towards experience).

Additional Qualifications and Skills

B.A. or B.S. in biology or related field and are strongly preferred, as are 2+ years of experience with flow cytometry and/ or cell sorting. Basic computer and laboratory science skills are necessary. Person must be comfortable working with animal and human cells, operating complex equipment, managing computerized data, and interacting effectively with a diverse group of researchers with various levels of expertise and experience.

May be required to lift, move and transport related laboratory equipment ~45lbs.

This is a one-year, grant-funded position with possibility of renewal based on funding availability.
