A Cellular/Molecular Postdoc position is immediately available in the Department of Neurology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) in New York, NY (https://www.columbianeurology.org). The Postdoc will join the Simoes Lab at the Taub Institute for Research on Alzheimer's Disease and the Aging Brain. The selected candidate will participate in an NIH-funded research project focusing on biomarker discovery and development. The project will examine dysfunction in the endosomal trafficking system as a new source of biomarkers. This work will involve working with different mouse models, neuronal cell lines, CSF, and brain/peripheral-derived exosomes. This is a 2-year grant-funded position, with the opportunity of appointment extension. Previous experience in Alzheimer's disease or other neurological disorder research field is required. Proficiency in cell biology, protein biochemistry, confocal microscopy and proteomics are critical for this position. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in Neuroscience. Prior experience with bioinformatics in the biomedical research field, preferably with the processing and downstream analysis of "omics" data are encouraged to apply.
The candidate will plan, develop, and execute the experiments in line with the project requirements based on the funded research plan, and through active discussion with the PI. The Postdoc is expected to provide creative solutions, demonstrate initiative and with exceptional communication skills. Moreover, the candidate will accurately document experimental procedures and results and contribute to the writing of reports, grant proposals, and papers. The postdoctoral scientist will have the opportunity to present at a national or international meeting.
