The University at Buffalo's Genomics & Bioinformatics Core (GBC), located in the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences (CBLS), has an opening for a junior lab technician.
The GBC is a university asset providing next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics services to both academia and industry. Along with supporting academic research, the GBC plays a critical role in UB's economic development mission by collaborating with industry partners/clients to support their R&D needs.
The candidate should have molecular biology skills including:
DNA/cDNA/RNA preparation and quality control;
designing and performing PCR assays,
operating standard platforms used in molecular biology such as the plate reader, spectrophotometer, PCR machines,
experience in sterile techniques and analytical skills.
In addition to lab bench activities, this position will:
help with routine instrument maintenance
purchasing reagents and consumables, and assisting with compliance policies.
Excellent computer and organizational skills are essential.
Some knowledge of next-generation sequencing is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's degree or two years formal training and at least 3 years of experience in a directly related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
BS or BS/MS degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry or closely related field.
Up to one (1) year of experience in molecular biology and data analysis with a working knowledge of nucleic acid preparation methods and quality control or demonstrated proficiency in PCR based assays.
