The Biosciences Department at Rice University (https://biosciences.rice.edu/) has an open, full-time, non-tenure track instructional position of lecturer, starting in the 2023-2024 academic year. Rice University is among the top 20 on U.S. News & World Report's list of the best national universities and is ranked #3 for Best Undergraduate Teaching in 2022.
The responsibilities of this position include teaching in our undergraduate laboratory courses, many of which are course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). Depending on experience, this position may also include departmental service commitments and related activities. Faculty in similar positions are encouraged to develop ideas for new courses, implement innovative pedagogical approaches, and seek internal and external support for such activities. This position is a potential long-term career path opportunity. Our career path teaching faculty ranks generally start at lecturer followed by assistant, associate, and full teaching professor.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a life sciences field (or have completed the requirements for a Ph.D. by July 1, 2023) and college-level teaching experience is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have broad training in biology as well as experience in more than one of the following fields: biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, molecular genetics, neuroscience, and/or ecology.
