We are looking for an experienced laboratory scientist to help execute large-scale projects under the supervision of the Center for Translational & Computational Neuroimmunology (CTCN) director. The preferred candidate will have expertise in human immunology as well as molecular and cellular biology laboratory techniques, will be able to master and optimize novel experimental protocols as required by the project, and will be able to work largely independently within a large team to accomplish the project's goals. Showing initiative, being proactive and being able to effectively manage multiple research assistants and other team members to accomplish a project are required. Experience with handling complex projects with multiple collaborators is a plus, and there is an expectation to be exceptionally well organized and maintain clear records of all components of the project. Experience in neuroimmunology is not required.
The candidate, following the CTCN director's guidance, will manage 1-2 large projects on a day to day basis and supervise the sample archive. The typical project involves purification of immune cells from human blood, cerebrospinal fluid or tissue, manipulation of these cells in vitro, and subsequent profiling of the biomaterial to generate RNA, epigenomic, cytometric, proteomic, single cell or other data. Functional characterization will also be pursued. The candidate will be responsible for accessing pertinent samples from the archive of human material, optimizing the experimental protocol by reaching out to colleagues and other scientists outside the group as needed, then executing the protocol at large scale, interfacing with a genomics, proteomics or other core facility as needed to generate high-dimensional data, and finally working with computational team members to prepare and analyze the data. During the sample processing phase, the candidate will supervise 1-2 research technicians; students and post-doctoral fellows may also be involved.
PhD with 5+ year of relevant human immunology molecular or cellular biology experience.
Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous record-keeping
Experience with Excel and/or other software to manage biosamples and record detailed information
Experience supervising trainees or junior research technicians
Excellent skills in preparing concise summary reports to share with collaborators and funders
