Job Summary We are looking for an energetic and highly organized bioinformatician interested in human genetics and cortical development. The position will involve assisting postdoctoral fellows and graduate students on the computational aspects of their genetics and genomics projects. As a NIH and HHMI funded lab at Boston Children's Hospital, the Walsh lab is focused on the elucidation of fundamental mechanisms governing development and evolution of the human cerebral cortex. We use human genetics and animal and cellular models in conjunction with molecular tools in our investigation of neuronal development.
This Bioinformatician will be responsible for:
Analysis of various genomic, transcriptomic, and epigenomics datasets from bulk tissue and single cells for different types of germline and somatic variants
Performing statistical analysis to help with project design and hypothesis testing
Using available software and generate scripts as needed for data analysis
Preparing graphs and charts to summarize data findings for publication
Working closely with researchers in the lab to understand the questions being asked
Effectively communicating results
Maintaining data and data backups in an efficient and organized manner
Supporting lab data management
Assisting with data distribution, sharing, and request
To qualify, you must have:
A bachelor's or master's degree in bioinformatics or related field
Experience analyzing genomic data for research projects, good problem solving skills, excellent organizational and communication skills, and enjoy working as part of a team
