Position Summary
The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Detroit Mercy College of Engineering & Science invites applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in Computer Science starting August 16, 2023. An earned doctorate in Computer Science or a related discipline by the time of appointment is required. Applications from all Computer Science sub-disciplines will be reviewed with a preference in Computer or Network Security. The successful candidate will be an effective and enthusiastic teacher-scholar, developing innovative hands-on teaching strategies and curriculum for undergraduate and graduate courses and laboratories. We are particularly interested in candidates who will contribute to our efforts to provide support and opportunities for underrepresented students majoring in science and engineering disciplines. Faculty in the department are expected to develop a research program involving the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, write grants, and publish in refereed journals and conference proceeding.
Computer Science and Software Engineering are housed in the Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science Department and offer Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, a Master of Science in Software Engineering, a Graduate Certificate in Applied Data Science, and minors in Bioinformatics and Computer Science, and supports the Graduate Certificate in Vehicle Cyber Engineering. The small classes, excellent facilities, and close collegial relationships make teaching at Detroit Mercy exciting and rewarding. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Faculty in the department are expected to develop a research program involving the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students, write grants, and publish in refereed journals and conference proceeding. Requirements
Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline by the time of appointment
Experience teaching computer science courses at post-secondary level or equivalent instructional experiences
Commitment to implementing research-based best-practices for active teaching strategies and pedagogy
Record of research and scholarly publications within the last three years
A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace
Preferred Qualifications
Flexibility in teaching a variety of computer science and software engineering courses based on the needs of the department
Industry experience
Commitment to student-centered mentoring and advising
Willingness to support the educational needs of the department and provide service to the department, college, university, community and profession
