The Cell Biology Department at the Johns Hopkins University is seeking aResearch Technologist. This employee will design, perform, analyze and report on experiments that test a model, hypothesis or question in a specific area of biomedical research such as (but not limited to) biophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, cell biology, cognition, disease mechanisms, genetics, immunology, metabolism, microbiology, molecular biology, neuroscience, physiology, tissue engineering or virology.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Basic research work appropriate to the lab (e.g., molecular biology, cell culture, microscopy, model organisms) plus related tasks and intellectual activities in the lab.
Participation in PREP activities including but not limited to chalk-talks, project meetings and workshops.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Understanding of basic experimental design and laboratory safety.
Willingness to learn and master new experimental methods and strategies.
Excellent communication skills, willingness to ask questions, and positive attitude.
Precise measures of quantity and quality.
Near vision to see objects clearly within 20 inches.
The ability to move about and in seated position for extended periods of time.
Occasionally lifting and/or carrying objects weighing 10 lbs. or less and occasionally pushing and/or, pulling objects weighing 30 lbs. or less; handling by seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hands.
Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers, for example, using a keyboard, pipette, pipette aid, and opening/closing small snap-cap and screw-cap tubes.
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
Some related post-undergraduate work experience.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
