The Division of Bioinformatics in the Department of Preventive Medicine at the University of Southern California (USC) is recruiting to fill a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor, with preference for a candidate that has an established interest in the field of biomedical data science/informatics. We seek someone with a strong academic record to join our growing Bioinformatics Division and to contribute to our active research and educational programs, and collaborative projects both inside USC and outside. Central to the mission of the Division are the development and application of biomedical data resources. Currently, faculty of the Division play key roles in the development and application of data resources such as the Gene Ontology knowledgebase, the PANTHER (Protein Analysis Through Evolutionary Relationships) resource, the Southern California Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute data warehouse, and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute.

We seek an applicant with a research program focused on the development or application of biomedical data resources, or in related areas of data science such as natural language understanding (NLU), ontologies, or knowledge representation (e.g. knowledge graphs), with specific applications in biomedical research. Potential application areas include, but are not limited to, the current strengths within the Department of Preventive Medicine such as integrative genomics, genetic epidemiology, environmental epidemiology, population neuroscience, spatial statistics, network analysis, public health, and/or clinical trials. The successful candidate will be encouraged to participate in teaching activities for our departmentâs new M.S. in Public Health Data Science.
