This is a laboratory-based position in a group that studies mechanisms of liver disease including fatty liver and fibrosis/cirrhosis. The lab is in search of a research associate who will take part in some or all of the following duties: (a) maintenance and genotyping of mouse colonies; (b) isolation of primary cells from animal and human livers; (c) maintenance of human hepatic stellate cells. In addition, the research associate will perform experiments examining hepatic stellate cell responses to various insults in cell culture, and analyze responses by Western blotting, quantitative gene expression, or immunohistochemistry. Other duties may be assigned. The research associate will work under the direct supervision of the lab director. Meticulous technique and thorough recordkeeping are essential.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.
