Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics, at the University of Washington School of Medicine and The Center for Immunity and Immunotherapies (CIIT) in the Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) is recruiting a full time Assistant Professor, without tenure by reason of funding, or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding, commensurate with experience and qualifications, on the faculty-scientist pathway. This is a 12-month service period position with an anticipated start date of Summer 2023.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Associate Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The successful candidate will join a diverse faculty of clinicians, physician-scientists, and scientists to participate in the diagnosis, treatment and advancement of knowledge and novel therapeutics for people with primary immune deficiency diseases.

They will establish and lead an independent and extramurally-funded research program, actively collaborate with other faculty and scientists, participate in teaching and mentoring graduate and postdoctoral students as well as junior faculty investigators. The successful applicant will also enjoy a competitive start-up package, excellent space and state-of-the-art research and IT facilities in the Research Institute.

Applications are invited in any area of basic or translational laboratory-based research relevant to immunology, including genetic diseases and models, systems biology, cell signaling and transcriptional regulation, viral gene therapy, gene editing, biotechnology and bioengineering.

In addition to leading their own independent research program, the candidate will provide up to 25% effort to the clinical care of patients as part of the talented Immunology team at Seattle Children's Hospital.

The successful candidate will contribute to a robust inpatient and outpatient service; collaborate with the WA Department of Health in the screening of newborns identified as having Severe Combined Immune Deficiency; participate in the Non-Malignant Transplant Program in concert with our collaborators within Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center; Participate and/or lead national protocols in the study of primary immune deficiency diseases and participate in clinical trials operated by the Seattle Children's Program for Cell and Gene Therapy.

The Division is committed to the training of Allergy and Immunology Fellows. The successful candidate will have the opportunity of teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and junior faculty.

The base salary range for this position will be: $14,417 - $21,250 per month ($173,004 - $255,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children's University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).

Qualifications

Requires an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. combined (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified or board eligible in Allergy and Immunology or Pediatric Rheumatology.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
