Position Description

The Genetics Division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington (UW) Medicine is recruiting a full-time clinical track Molecular Pathologist. There is one open position for a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding, on the Clinician-Teacher pathway. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. The Genetics Division includes faculty who collaborate with pathologists, laboratory geneticists, medical geneticists, oncologists, and researchers across UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and Seattle Children's Hospital in an extremely collegial, supportive, and interactive environment.

This position will demonstrate excellent molecular diagnostics skills and serve as an associate director in the Department's molecular laboratories focused on oncology and genetics. Specific responsibilities will include histology slide assessment, tissue selection, molecular assay interpretation and sign out, molecular assay development and validation, participation in laboratory operations, and next-generation sequencing informatics. Additional responsibilities include teaching residents, fellows, medical students, and medical laboratory science undergraduate students. The successful candidate is expected to develop an area of scholarship appropriate to their clinical and/or educational interests. The Genetics Division is staffed by 14 faculty who collectively sign out over 20,000 tests annually.

Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to:

• Board-certification or -eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology
• A strong record of accomplishment and commitment to patient care, educational programs, and academic scholarship.
• Documented experience with molecular diagnostic test development and clinical interpretation of next-generation sequencing test results.
• Documented experience in managing the selection and analysis of tissue samples for molecular testing.
• A record of research, as documented by publications.

Rank of Assistant and Associate Professors without tenure are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of 7/1/2023, but is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $11,378 to $20,043 per month ($136,535 to $240,515 annually), Associate Professor range: $13,864 to $25,000 per month ($166,367 to $300,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement (ADS).

Qualifications

• Candidates must have an M.D or DO or combined degree or foreign equivalent. Or M.D./Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent), are also acceptable.
• Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Anatomic Pathology or Clinical Pathology

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
