RCPHA is seeking a Director for a new research program in Population Genetics and Environment in Mood Disorders (POP-GEM). The Director will be expected to build and lead a collaborative, interdisciplinary research team focused on the genomics of mood disorders and comorbid traits, supported by robust extramural funding, and leading to consequential contributions to scholarship and advancements in the field of medicine. Candidates are required to have training and expertise in psychiatric genetic epidemiology, with an emphasis on major depression and related disorders, and strong expertise in causal modeling and applied population and statistical genetics.
The Director will have an academic appointment in the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Department of Psychiatry. In keeping with the mission of RCPHA and supported by the RCPHA Director, the program Director will seek to integrate these research initiatives systemwide as appropriate to include Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), University Correctional Health Care (UCHC), Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) and Rutgers Brain Health Institute to further the strategic mission of the departments and the larger institution. Additionally, the Director shall demonstrate leadership in the area of genomics and health, evidenced through participation in and leadership of regional, national and international research consortia and partnership with government and public health entities.
Specific responsibilities of the Director and Assistant/Associate Professor include the development and implementation of collaborative research, training, curricular and academic initiatives through RCPHA in the POP-GEM research program, supported by significant extramural funding; participation in and leadership of regional, national and international research efforts in genomics and health through production of academic scholarship and participation in professional academic associations and conferences, research consortia, and partnership with public and private research funding agencies; and related teaching and administrative contributions within the Department of Psychiatry.
Minimum Education and Experience:
The candidate is required to have a PhD in human genetics or related field. Candidates are required to have training and expertise in psychiatric genetic epidemiology and molecular genetics, with a preferred emphasis on mood and related disorders, and strong expertise in applied population and statistical genetics as well as bioinformatics and causal modeling. The candidate must have experience in leading collaborative, consortia-based research projects, prior history of grant funding, and a productive manuscript record. Experience teaching and mentoring pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, medical students and/or resident trainees is also required.
