The Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi are inviting applications for a fully-funded Post-Doctoral Associate position in the research group of Prof. Arjun Narayanan. The successful candidate will play a leading role in our quantitative and comparative studies of cytoskeletal self-organization across the tree of life.
The candidate will join a collaborative and multidisciplinary research environment, will work with a strong global network of scientists, and will have significant intellectual freedom and support to shape the research. Breakthrough methods are applied, pioneered by the research group to measure the dynamic condensation of biomolecular structures in living cells in an array of carefully chosen experimental systems (Mammalian cells, C. elegans, and D. discoideum). Our ongoing international collaborations provide additional expertise in optogenetics and developmental genetics (Institute of Molecular genetics, Prague) and biophysics theory (Max Plank Institute for Cell Biology and Genetics, Dresden, New York University, Abu Dhabi).
Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant discipline. Our primary selection criteria are:
Curiosity about the constraints physics and evolution exert on each other with respect to cytoskeletal self-organization in living cells;
An excitement to learn and use multidisciplinary skills;
The motivation to frame and pursue deep research questions.
Additionally, the following skills will be useful:
High resolution imaging, single molecule imaging, image analysis
Theory and analysis methods from the physics of complex systems
The experimental systems being studied (C. elegans, D. discoideum, mammalian cell lines)
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
This position will be based at New York University in Abu Dhabi, and the candidate must be ready to relocate to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
Applicants should submit a cover letter detailing their research experience, the career and learning goals they would like support in achieving, and the scientific questions they are currently most curious about. Additionally, a curriculum vitae with publication list, and contact information for at least three references is required. These documents should be combined in a single PDF file and submitted via Interfolio. Inquiries may be directed to Prof. Arjun Narayanan at narayanan@nyu.edu
