The Division of Women's Genetics in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York City seeks a full-time faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
The successful applicant will join the Division and serve as the Laboratory Director for the Women's Genetic Center. The Women's Genetic Center is a formal collaboration between the Women's Genetics Service of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center's Department of OB/GYN (CUIMC OB/GYN), a national leader in clinical reproductive genetics and genomics, and the New York Genome Center (NYGC), a national leader in the advancement of genomic science and its application to drive novel biomedical discoveries. The combined expertise and vision of CUIMC OB/GYN and the NYGC in the formation of the Women's Genetic Center will become the premier provider of cutting edge clinical genomic healthcare for women focused on genomic testing modalities. This collaboration will allow the smooth and rapid transition of new sequence-based technologies from the lab to the patient, and will provide the lab with the necessary patient population to facilitate additional discoveries. As additional new genomic sequencing tools are envisioned, developed and translated into clinical care, and as the potential for further development is unlimited, formal integration of the skills and expertise of a collaborative team of laboratory and clinical genetic specialists with the mission and caliber of CUIMC OB/GYN and the NYGC is needed to ensure that the highest level of women's clinical genomic healthcare can be achieved.
The incumbent will serve in a leadership role on the Executive Committee of the Women's Genetic Center and will report to the Board of Directors of this program including the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Chief Executive Officer of the New York Genome Center.
The candidate must be an MD or PhD with board certification in an appropriate ABMG sub-specialty or PhD in the biological sciences with board certification in Clinical Molecular Genetics by the American Board of Medical Genetics; 10 or more years of direct molecular diagnostics laboratory management in genetic testing, including supervision of laboratory staff and existing or eligibility for New York State Certificate of Qualification for genetic testing.
The ideal candidate should have a history of collaboration in clinical or translational research productivity in genetic or genomic medicine and think strategically. We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual who has a national reputation, experience working in and leading change, with strong interpersonal and research skills. Individual must demonstrate history of cross-functional leadership and/or participation in cross-functional teams within and outside institute; ability to self-organize and operate effectively without day-to-day oversight while staying tightly connected to key leaders and teams across the collaborations; have or rapidly gain an understanding of the business, analyze the market and environment, its competitive position and other relevant factors relating to the Women's Genetic Center.
