We are seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Weiss, Department Chairperson, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The Weiss lab studies focus on Diabetes Mellitus and Peptide Hormones: Principles of receptor recognition, evolution of insulin and insulin-like signaling systems, structure- activity relationships and analogue design with application to global health; Reproductive Endocrinology: Protein-nucleic acid interactions, structural aspects of gene regulation.
Application to sex determination and intersex abnormalities of the newborn; and Applications of Structural Biology in Biochemistry and Pharmacology: Multi-dimensional NMR methods in solution with application to structures of proteins, protein-ligand complexes and nucleic acids. Crystal structures of biomolecules.
We are seeking a Post doctorate to express and purify the insulin receptor from mammalian cell culture for use in cryo-EM and other studies and to express and purify insulin and insulin analogs from yeast-based expression system. This candidate should be self-motiving and able to design and execute experiments independently or in a collaborative environment. A candidate may be involved with the training of junior laboratory personnel on these protocols and other techniques

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate or terminal degree required. PhD required with relevant experience in protein expression and purification. Experience with funded for at least three years by the NIH
