The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Division of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology, is seeking a Researcher V candidate to provide support in management and organization of the Sun Lab and in addition will support the wet-lab activities of the lab. The ideal candidate will also have the creative freedom to pursue independent research projects across the general research interest area of the lab.

General Responsibilities

• To be responsible for the overall operation of the lab.
• To oversee projects within the lab.
• To contribute to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications.
• To supervise a research team, direct and teach lab practices.
• To manage lab equipment and supplies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Assumes significant responsibility for the overall operation of the lab.
2. Oversees projects within the laboratory.
3. Monitors results, detects and reports unusual outcomes, develops and implements modifications and provides reports or other consultation to management.
4. Contributes to the design, interpretation and writing of grant proposals and publications.
5. Supervises and oversees maintenance of lab equipment and orders and supervises lab supplies.
6. Uses advanced knowledge of lab practices to direct and teach others by developing guidelines and conducting face-to-face/virtual training.
7. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 annually

Requirements

• Doctorate in a related field and one (1) year of related experience
• OR Master's degree in a related field and three (3) years of related experience
• OR Bachelor's degree in related field and five (5) years of related experience

Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.

Preferences

• Bachelor's degree in molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, biochemistry, computational biology or a related field, and at least 2+ years of experiences in a laboratory.
• Experience in lab management and mentoring undergraduate, MSc and PhD students.
• Applicants with PhD and 5+ years' experiences in molecular techniques are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Wet lab experience.
