Position Summary
The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a Short-Term Casualto join our team in a part-time position to work within the division of Molecular Genetics. Columbia University Irving Medical Center???s Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing research assistance for a study investigating molecular genetics of weight regulation. The qualified candidate will work closely with all team members and the other members of the Division of Molecular Genetics.
Responsibilities
Basic molecular genetics bench work including DNA extraction, RT-PCR, sanger sequencing, western blot.
Participate in undertaking animal studies including measurement of weight, length, body composition and tests for glucose tolerance.
May be involved in therapeutics studies in animals.
Any other related duties as assigned.
Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduate or Equivalency required.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics.
One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and/ or experience.
Other Requirements
Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be fluent in English.
Should be organized, thorough, maintain good records, and able to work independently.
Should have basic computer skills and be able to use Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
